New study shows that boys have closed the reading gap on girls. It’s always been thought that girls are better at reading - mostly, it seems, because they chose to read harder books. Whilst girls like to see more grown-up fiction as aspirational, boys may use non-fiction as an easy get out clause.
Surely Jeff Kinney’s ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ has a lot to be thanked for. It’s got boys to read longer books and was by far the biggest selling book last year.
